Camptown To Lead Wilderness Adventure Club to Study Feral Ponies

Camptown is a non-profit organization committed to serving the needs of youth by providing wilderness adventure programs that lead youth to a better path by giving them direction for the choices they make in life.

Partnering with science teacher Jon Bannon of Creekside Middle School in Carmel, Camptown will lead students of the Creekside Wilderness Adventure Club on a 5-day trip to Virginia during the summer. The adventure trip will take them into Mount Rogers Wilderness Area near Damascus where they will backpack in to track and study the feral ponies that roam freely there. This is an exciting trip due to the fact that no previous research has been done on the ponies of the Mount Rogers Wilderness Area. In the meantime, students will learn life skills through trip planning activities such as packing a backpack and using a map and compass during their monthly club meetings.
